Clinical and epidemiological features of skin melanoma in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2015–2022

Introduction: Currently, skin melanoma demonstrates a steady upward trend and in recent years has become one of the leading causes of mortality and disability in developing countries, resulting in significant losses among the working-age population.
Objective: To study the incidence rate of skin melanoma in the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Materials and Methods: The study included patients registered and hospitalized with skin melanoma in the Republic of Uzbekistan during 2015–2022.
Results: The incidence rate of skin melanoma remained 0.4 per 100,000 population throughout the study period, while the mortality rate was 0.2 per 100,000 population. Among patients under 65 years of age, 52% were women and 48% were men. In contrast, among patients aged over 65 years, 34% were women and 66% were men. In 2022, compared to 2015, the detection of skin melanoma at advanced stages decreased by 10%. However, the five-year survival rate declined from 38.3% in 2015 to 34.5% in 2022.
Conclusion: In the Republic of Uzbekistan, the incidence and mortality rates of skin melanoma remain stable. The majority of patients are over 45 years of age, and men predominate in the group older than 65 years. Despite a decrease in late-stage detection by 2022, the five-year survival rate has declined.
